4 in a Row!
The NYU Mock Trial Team once again placed Top 5 at the National Championship Tournament. The team traveled down to Washington, D.C. to compete in four thrilling rounds against the 2012 National Champions Duke University, Drexel University, the 2011 Champions UCLA, and Brown University. Despite the incredible competition, the NYU Mock Trial Team emerged undefeated from every single round and ultimately placed 4th in the Nation, just two points shy of qualifying for its third Final Round in four years.
NYU’s Nationals Team featured attorneys Bill Visone, Jacob Hansen, Peter Fitzpatrick, and Sharon Turret as well as witnesses Dario Salvato, Arun Vignesh, and Deanna Oliver.
Rhodes College captured the 2013 Downtown Championship. And they had to get through the defending National Champion twice on their way to the top.
In the closest Championship Round in Downtown history, Rhodes College defeated Duke University 5-4. The Honorable Judge Jill Konviser of the New York State Supreme Court, Criminal Division presided over the trial.
The trial was a rematch of two of AMTA’s Southern powerhouse programs, as they also faced off in Round 4. Rhodes College became the fifth college to be crowned Downtown Champion.

AMTA’s Bonus Bid Rankings (listed below) use teams’ results at the last three National Championship Tournaments in order to rank the top teams in the country.
The American Mock Trial Association has released this year’s case, and it’s a good one! Allen v. Neptune Underwater Expeditions is the case that college mock trial teams across the country will use to compete against each other for the next eight months. AMTA’s case contains all the facts, witnesses, and evidence that teams need to develop their arguments. It is now up to the individual teams to use these next few months to come up with the best arguments possible!
This year’s case involves the death of a scuba diver, Lee Allen, while on an expedition arranged by the Neptune diving company. Lee’s spouse Allen is suing the diving company for Lee’s wrongful death.
